Thaksin phone-in blocked

Tens of thousands of supporters packed into the old national stadium in downtown Bangkok were disappointed on Saturday when a scheduled speech by fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra was cancelled at the last minute. The former premier, living in exile to escape corruption charges, was to phone in to the rally at the stadium Saturday evening, after his allies in government were forced out by a court ruling that has splintered their coalition. He was expected to use his speech to accuse the army of meddling in Thai politics. Instead, in a pre-recorded address, he urged unity. At Supachalasai stadium, where supporters of United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) gathered to listen to ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra's phone-in speech, on Saturday afternoon, an explosion was heard.

According to initial report, police believed a giant fire-cracker was thrown into the venue. No one was injured.More than 20,000 UDD members already gathered there. About 1,000 police were deployed there to tighten security. In the morning, a group of vocational students clashed with UDD members. There were no injuries.

The Demonstrans leave Suvarnabhum

The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) officially returned Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports to authorities on Wednesday morning after its supporters occupied the compounds and halted their operations for about a week.

The PAD officially ended its anti-government protests at 10am Wednesday while many supporters were starting to pack up and leave both airports. The group previously arranged activities to celebrate the Constitution Court’s verdict to dissolve the People Power party (PPP) together with its two coalition partners, Chart Thai and Matchimathipataya, for election fraud. Airports of Thailand (AOT) acting director Serirat Prasutanond on Wednesday led media and security members to inspect the terminals of Suvarnabhumi to determine when the airport can fully resume its operation.

disbanded 3 parties

The high court held the three parties for accountability on electoral fraud involving party executives, Yongyuth Tiyapairat of People Power, Monthien Songpracha of Chart Thai and Sunthorn Wilawan of Matchima Thipataya.
In the fraud case linked to People Power Party, the high court cited the Yongyuth conviction by the Supreme Court as the ground to penalise the ruling party. For cases linked to Chart Thai and Matchima Thipataya, it invoked the rulings by the Election Commission as the basis to punish the two parties.

The nine presiding judges reached unanimous decisions against People Power and Matchima Thipataya parties. And they formed the eight-to-one decision to punish Chart Thai. The high court opined that the punishment by disbandment was mandatory as sanctioned by Article 237 of the Constitution and that it had no leeway to selectively punish the party executives on the individual basis.

granade was explosion, 50 injured

A grenade was launched into the Government House compound minutes late Saturday night, injuring 50 people. The explosion occurred at 11:50 pm Saturday when the protesters were preparing to rest and leaders of the People's Alliance for the Democracy were about to stop the activities on the stage. The bomb fell on the roof of a tent on the left side of the stage and fell onto the ground and exploded.

Kittichai Saisa-ard, chief of PAD guards, said 47 protesters were sent to the Ramathibodi Hospital, and four of them were severely injured. He said two other protesters were sent to Phra Mongkut Hospital and another to Vajira Hospital. The bomb, believed by the PAD to be an M79 grenade, exploded just 200 metres away from the PAD's main stage inside the Government House. It was fired outside the rally ground from a similar direction of the recent attack at the site.

Suriyasai Katasila said guards saw a flash from the direction of the Benjamabophit Hospital so it was believed the grenade was launched from the direction.
PAD guards checked and concluded that the assailant fired the grenade from a building inside the Rajamangala Technology University. Most of the injured were hit by shrapnel at their face and eyes. Most are women.

Four of the injured remained in the intensive care unit. They were identified as Kanchana Muennoo, 27, Jitra Jintanatham, 57, Suphana, surname unknown and Pienjai, surname unknown. The four are women. Kanchana's left lung was torn by the bomb shrapnel and doctors had to resuscitate her. A 60-year-old woman from Kanchanaburi recounted that she was sleeping and woken up with the explosion.
